Perched within a dramatic hillside landscape, this custom family estate was designed to maximize sweeping views while fostering a deep connection to the surrounding natural environment. Inspired by the character and timeless elegance of traditional European country estates, the residence carefully responds to the site's existing topography and mature trees. A primary design challenge was preserving the natural landscape by protecting existing trees, minimizing grading, and strategically positioning the home to capture panoramic views of Mount Tamalpais. The resulting architecture feels as though it has emerged naturally from the hillside, seamlessly integrating the built environment with its remarkable setting.

At the heart of the estate, a spectacular great room features lift-and-slide pocket doors on both the front and rear elevations, creating uninterrupted visual and physical connections to the terraces, pool deck, and surrounding landscape. One of the home's most distinctive architectural moments is a glazed hallway that weaves through the existing trees, linking the primary suite to the great room while immersing occupants in nature. Terraces and outdoor living spaces are carefully oriented toward views of Mount Tamalpais, reinforcing the home's exceptional indoor-outdoor flow. By connecting building elements through the existing landscape and topography, the design creates a unique living experience where architecture, nature, and family life exist in complete harmony.
