Cakebread Cellars was the firm's first winery project and marked the beginning of a long-standing expertise in winery architecture and vineyard development. Prior to designing the winery, the firm was commissioned to create the Cakebread family residence in Napa Valley, establishing a trusted relationship that ultimately led to the winery project. Designed in the traditional California barn style, the winery balanced the highly technical requirements of wine production with an architectural character that reflected the heritage and agricultural identity of Napa Valley. The facility was conceived to establish Cakebread Cellars as a major presence within the Napa Valley wine industry while creating a winery that was both operationally efficient and visually distinctive.
